TEDxDrogheda 2017: “Private Lives”

TEDxDrogheda is back! The second TEDx event in the North-East of Ireland has been officially launched on Monday, 28th August 2017 under the title “Private Lives”. The event will be hosted in the Droichead Arts Centre on 3rd November 2017 and will provide a broad interpretation of the theme “Identity”, with presentations by artists, social activists, entrepreneurs, historians, and academics from our local community.  A call out for speakers is currently taking place on TEDxDrogheda website: http://tedxdrogheda.com/ , deadline for submissions – 30th September 2017.

The organizing committee consists of Anna Kurtisa – administrator at The Mill Enterprise Hub, Orlaith Carmody – former RTE news reporter and Managing Director of Gavin Duffy and Associates, Seán Ó Cearrúlláin – director of Sky High Productions, Barry James – speaker of TEDxDrogheda 2016.

“We are interested in asking whether the concept of Identity is related to personality or whether it involves something much broader such as our health, creativity, social equality, or environment”, said Orlaith Carmody, the Managing Director of Mediatraining.ie. “TEDxDrogheda represents technology, the arts, education, youth programmes, business and not-for-profit organisations.  Our common aim is to reach a diverse cross-section of our community and ensure a truly inspirational set of topics and talks”, said Graham O’Rourke.

Because TEDx events are intentionally small, designed to be intimate events that provoke discussion and promote connection, the seating at TEDxDrogheda will be limited to 100. “We are seeking an audience representing the broadest possible range of the community, including local residents and other members of the general public who are inspired by ideas and interested in connecting with others who share the same passion for knowledge”, concluded Anna Kurtisa.

Tickets will go on sale this month, priced at €30 for a Standard Ticket, and €15 for a Concession Ticket (students, unemployed, and senior members 65+).

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a conference in California 1984, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with many initiatives.

At a TED conference, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes or less. TED speakers have included Roger Ebert, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Gates, Elizabeth Gilbert, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Brian Greene, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

On TED.com, talks from TED conferences are shared with the world for free as TED Talks videos. A new TED Talk is posted every weekday. Through the Open Translation Project, TED Talks are subtitled by volunteers worldwide. Through our distribution networks, TED Talks are shared on TV, radio, Netflix and many websites.

The TEDx initiative grants free licenses to people around the world to organize TED-style events in their communities with TED Talks and live speakers. Selected talks from these events are also turned into TED Talks videos.

The annual TED Prize grants $1 million to an exceptional individual with a wish to change the world. The TED Fellows program helps world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities. TED-Ed creates short video lessons by pairing master teachers with animators, for use in classroom instruction or independent learning.
